Ledley King
Opta Player of the Month – November
November was a month of transition and change for Tottenham Hotspur but they ended with a fine win against Middlesbrough and new hope for the rest of the season. The Opta player of the month is Spurs’ England centre-half Ledley King, a player who was at the very heart of the ups and downs of the month.
King scored his first goal of the season in the most highly charged match of the campaign; the home clash with Arsenal. Unfortunately for the young stopper it did not prevent the Gunners from sealing their only win of the month, but it did demonstrate King’s growing attacking prowess.
Back in his familiar defensive groove, King made 30 headed clearances, almost as many as the rest of the Tottenham squad put together (they made 38 in total). He also powered into 12 tackles.
In second place is hotshot striker Jermain Defoe. The former West Ham whippet rediscovered his golden touch in November, scoring three goals in the Premiership and one in the League Cup. He ended the month with a deadly conversion rate of 27%, which bodes well for Spurs as they head into the busy Christmas period.
Third place this month is former Portsmouth and Nice defender Noe Pamarot. He contested 18 tackles in November, a figure only beaten by Nourredine Naybet and Michael Brown in the Tottenham squad.
After the five goals leaked against Arsenal, Spurs went on to concede just one goal in their final two games of the month. If Martin Jol can marry this defensive play with some renewed attacking prowess then the recent troubles at White Hart Lane will soon be forgotten.
